Canvas Tip: Attendance Tool

Did you know that Canvas has a built in “Roll Call Attendance” tool? With the Attendance tool, instructors can keep track of course attendance by taking roll electronically. Instructors can choose to view the tool in a list or grid format and can customize the placement of each student in the seating chart.

To enable the Roll Call Attendance tool: Go to Course Settings > Navigation, and drag the Attendance menu item into the course navigation menu and click the Save button. Students will not see this item on the course menu.

Note: The first time you take attendance, the Attendance tool will create a “Roll Call Attendance” assignment worth 100 points in the Grade book. If you do not want points calculated for Attendance, please click the Roll Call Attendance assignment, edit assignment settings, check the box that says ‘Do not count this assignment towards the final grade”, then click the Save button.

See the Attendance (Roll Call) guides for more information.
