SUMMARY:Neurodiversity for Higher Education (CTLF-M227-530)
DESCRIPTION:Neurodiversity – the idea that people’s brains differ markedly from each other – is an emergent topic in educational practices. Some ways that neurodiverse brains differ from neurotypical brains can include ADHD\, Autism\, Dyslexia\, Dyscalculia\, Dyspraxia\, PTSD\, and others. Many neurodiverse students process information differently\, perceive sensory input differently\, and have different emotional regulation needs and skills. This class will teach ways in which neurodiverse brains may think and behave differently in educational environments than neurotypical brains\, provide applications and ideas on how to include neurodiverse students more fully in classrooms\, and help our students more fully actualize their educational experience by working in concert with their abilities to be more successful.

DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a faculty-focused interactive workshop entitled “Positive Classroom Interactions.” We have noticed that as the semester gets closer difficult conversations with students increase. How can we reduce the likelihood of the those stressful conversations and what can we do when they happen? \nThis workshop is designed to provide faculty members with tools to generate positive communication between themselves and their students. The workshop will also explore methods to de-escalate tense situations between faculty and students. We will also examine how diversity\, equity and inclusion play a role in generating positive communications. \nThe goal of the workshop is to provide faculty members with tools to generate positive interactions and to de-escalate difficult conversations. The Positive Classroom Interactions Workshop is PGU eligible.
