DESCRIPTION:Neurodiversity – the idea that people’s brains differ markedly from each other – is an emergent topic in educational practices. Some ways that neurodiverse brains differ from neurotypical brains can include ADHD\, Autism\, Dyslexia\, Dyscalculia\, Dyspraxia\, PTSD\, and others. Many neurodiverse students process information differently\, perceive sensory input differently\, and have different emotional regulation needs and skills. This class will teach ways in which neurodiverse brains may think and behave differently in educational environments than neurotypical brains\, provide applications and ideas on how to include neurodiverse students more fully in classrooms\, and help our students more fully actualize their educational experience by working in concert with their abilities to be more successful.

Faculty and staff interested in this free\, non-mandatory training on how to support members of our LGBT*QIA+ community can attend this two-hour session led by our campus’s trained Safe Zone facilitators. Faculty and staff successfully completing the training will receive a Safe Zone placard which they can display at their workstation. \nTo maintain the highest standards for supporting this program and the LGBT*QIA+ community\, we are asking that those who have been trained in Safe Zone prior to Fall 2022 go through the training again. In addition\, newly designed placards will be issued that include training expiration dates. In the meantime\, of course\, we encourage you to display other symbols of support as you wish.

DESCRIPTION:This faculty-focused interactive workshop is designed to provide faculty members tools to generate positive communication between themselves and their students. In addition\, the workshop will explore methods to de-escalate tense situations between faculty and students. We will also examine how diversity\, equity and inclusion play a role in generating positive communications. The goal of the workshop is to provide faculty members with tools and examples to utilize to generate positive interactions and tools to de-escalate difficult conversations.
