Third-party tools & materials

Publisher content, LTIs, external websites and required tools are part of the student experience too.

Before requiring a tool or external resource

  • Ask the vendor/publisher for current accessibility documentation (often a VPAT/ACR).
  • Look beyond the document: test the actual student task with keyboard navigation and common accessibility expectations.
  • Ask what known barriers remain and the vendor's remediation timeline.
  • Identify an equivalent path for students if the required experience is not accessible.
  • Recheck after major product changes; accessibility documentation can become stale.

For publisher materials

Slides, ebooks, homework systems, videos and documents supplied by a publisher still become part of the course experience when faculty require them. Prefer an accessible version or equivalent resource rather than waiting for a student to report a barrier.
