Moraine Valley Community College and the Center for Teaching and Learning very strongly believe in recognizing our best faculty accomplishments over each academic year. The College annually awards faculty for their efforts through our Adjunct Professor of the Year, Master Teacher of the Year, and Professor of the Year awards.
Award nomination information may be found on each respective page.
Each year, the Faculty Development Committee selects a faculty member as the Master Teacher based on nominations submitted and interviewed. Nomination categories are based on program strands established by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD), including:
- Teaching and Learning – Demonstration of classroom teaching and learning strategies; practical applications of instructional technology; description of classroom assessment procedures.
- Leadership Development – Faculty/staff selection and evaluation practices; policies for evaluation of instruction; indices of institutional effectiveness in practice; examples of institutional support of teaching and learning; examples of student leadership development programs and instruction.
- Career Development – Strategies for professional/faculty/staff development; activities for personal career advancement.
- Teamship Development – Innovative practices for establishing and promoting individual program and institution wide teams; description of successful community/business/college collaborations and partnerships.
The Professor of the Year Award was established in 1975 and is given annually to honor excellence in teaching. The award is based on excellence in the classroom; impact on students, both in and out of class; contributions to the department, the college, and the profession; contributions to curriculum development; and community service.
Award recipients receive a framed certificate, formal recognition at the college’s Staff Recognition Dinner, a nomination for several state and national faculty recognition awards, and a feature in the college’s annual Applause! Applause! publication. Additionally, the award recipient serves as the Grand Marshal for the College’s graduation ceremony.
